About Gursky Wiens & Shanley
Gursky Wiens & Shanley concentrates, first and foremost, in the representation of Unions and Union members. Each of the firm’s attorneys entered the practice of law based on a commitment to the labor movement and to improve conditions for working people. The firm has a wide-ranging labor law practice, including collective bargaining and general advice on contract interpretation and administration; grievance and interest arbitrations; representation in unfair labor practice proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board and similar state agencies; proceedings before other federal and state agencies; litigation at the trial and appellate level on behalf of Unions and Union members; assistance with matters of internal union governance, including Union elections; negotiation and administration of collectively-bargained employee benefit plans and litigation relating to such plans; and the representation of unions and their members in bankruptcy proceedings, workers’ compensation and proceedings to collect unpaid wages and benefits. In all matters, the firm strives, not only to prevail in the immediate proceeding, but to serve the larger institutional goals of the labor movement.
We advise public and private sector Unions in all facets of labor law, including organizing, contract negotiation and administration, arbitration, unfair labor practices and litigation in state and federal courts. Our lawyers practice before the National Labor Relations Boards and Rhode Island and Massachusetts labor agencies. We represent workers in virtually every occupation and industry, including public safety, education, construction, communication, healthcare, transportation, entertainment and gaming. We represent Unions from their initial formation through winning contracts and everything in between.
